She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center of Excellence in Substance Abuse Treatment and Education at the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System. She has received specialized training in chronic pain and other chronic health conditions, substance use disorders, PTSD, adolescent development, and mind-body health and wellness.

Dr Welton’s work with adolescents and adults typically focuses on issues of stress management, coping skills, depression, anxiety, eating and sleeping issues, mind-body health and wellness coaching, chronic health conditions, addictive behaviors, unresolved grief, trauma, relationship struggles, and difficult life changes. She uses an integrative, mind-body skills-based approach to collaboratively examine the link between a client's physical, cognitive, and emotional symptoms. Then, an action plan is developed that incorporates strengths, life circumstances, and desired changes to work toward improved health, wellness, and quality of life.

Dr Welton believes the work of therapy is often to learn how to be present with discomfort and cultivate compassion for oneself and others in order to move in the direction of a full, rich and meaningful life. She is passionate about how we can train our bodies to affect our minds and vise versa, and is pursuing ongoing training in integrative medicine for mental health.
