Ruqian Ma (Daisy) is a postdoctoral fellow at Eastside Psychological Associates working towards obtaining her psychologist license under the supervision of Bethany Balkus, Psy.D., L.P. She specializes in working with children, teens, and young adults, as well as their parents/caregivers, who are seeking support related to:
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other forms of neurodiversity
Pediatric feeding disorder
Behavior challenges
Anxiety and depression
Stress, traumatic experiences, and life transitions
Daisy uses an integrative approach coupled with a systems approach to direct her treatment planning. She draws from ecological systems, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, behavioral, and interpersonal theories to guide her practices and approaches client care with a trauma-informed perspective. Her approach to assessment is strengths-based and neurodiversity affirming. She is proficient in a range of psychological assessments to aid in differential diagnosis and employs a variety of therapeutic modalities such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Play Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). In addition, she is passionate about collaborating with families to better develop an individualized framework that truly reflects each individual’s uniqueness. For younger children, Daisy also focuses on providing parent training and coaching to better support the child.
Moreover, as a first-generation immigrant, Daisy understands the struggles and resilience of being bilingual/bi-cultural (Mandarin-Chinese) and adapting to a new culture. She embraces her multicultural background and naturally carries a keen sensitivity and awareness when working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
Daisy is also actively involved in a community-based nonprofit organization to promote inclusivity and provide culturally sensitive support to Chinese-speaking individuals on the Autism spectrum and their families.
