Caitlin R. Burgess, JD, MA, LMFT is both a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (WA, CA, TX) and a licensed attorney (WA and CA) specializing in Court ordered therapy working with adults, adolescents, families, and children.   Ms. Burgess maintains a private practice in counseling psychology, law, and forensics providing services primarily throughout the Pacific Northwest and the San Francisco Bay Area.   Ms. Burgess has extensive clinical experience working with families and children involved in the legal system, and she draws on her training in law and counseling psychology using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Family Systems Therapy to address issues such as substance abuse, anxiety, depression, disruptive behaviors in children, parenting concerns, low self-esteem, separation/divorce, and reunification therapy where a child is resisting/refusing contact with a parent or caregiver post-separation/divorce.  She provides play therapy for children, co-parenting and parallel parenting education, and individual counseling for teens and adults.  She is passionate about working with survivors of intimate partner violence, helping them lead happier, healthier, more productive lives.  

She has worked in a residential treatment center for children and adolescents in foster care, school-based settings, and a rehabilitation facility for incarcerated youth.  She is on the District Attorney’s Office Victims of Crimes program referral list.

Ms. Burgess serves on the Board of Directors of the Washington Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) and is an active member of the King County Bar Association (KCBA).  She is a sought-after public speaker, having presented for numerous professional organizations.  As one might expect from a therapist who is also an attorney, her practice is evidence-based and interdisciplinary.
